Core Components of Urban Harvest

Growing and harvesting seasonal organic produce from the gardens, orchards and greenhouse at the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma facility provides fresh produce to the agencies in the Food Bank network.

Crop gleaning in cooperation with local farmers and farmer’s market growers diverts unsold produce that would normally go to waste to the Food Bank agency network.

Community gardening projects of various sizes and focus are established throughout the Oklahoma City Area with the assistance and continuing support of the Urban Harvest program. These gardens are located at neighborhood schools, churches, libraries, and in empty lots – empowering individuals and families to feed themselves, creating security and bringing neighbors together as a community.

Educational workshops, lectures and meetings are held by Urban Harvest utilizing the facility conference room, demonstration gardens and equipment on such subjects as community gardening, organic gardening techniques, drip irrigation, season extension and composting and other gardening related subjects. Off site speaking engagements can be scheduled upon request.
