During the fall of 2006, the Food Bank embarked on a 6 million dollar Capital Campaign – Building Expansion for the distribution center in Oklahoma City. Anticipating an increase in our annual distribution to 35-40 million pounds over the next 3-5 years, the Food Bank purchased 7.8 acres of land adjacent to and north of the current facility, which will allow us to accomplish the following:
- Add 30,000 square feet of dry warehouse space
- Expand Freezer space by 6,000 square feet
- Increase volunteer work areas
- Expand programs and services – including Food 4 Kids,
Senior Feeding and our Regional Distribution System
- Improve revenue from recycling
- Improve disaster response coordination
- Increase our capacity to serve rural Oklahoma
Fitzgerald & Associates provided the initial drawings and D.H. French Construction Company was hired as the General Contractor. The dirt work is now complete and, depending on the availability of materials and labor, the Food Bank anticipates a move-in and operational date in the fall of 2008.
