Senior Home Deliveries
Through the Senior Home Deliveries program, agencies deliver hot meals to homebound seniors. These seniors are often at the greatest risk for going hungry. Risk factors can include lack of transportation, lack of support from friends or family, inability to cook or prepare meals for themselves, or other special needs.
27,000 seniors struggle with hunger in central and western Oklahoma. The Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma is committed to identifying and assisting senior citizens who are at the highest risk of going hungry with the Senior Home Deliveries program and the Senior Mobile Pantries program. 9.5 percent of senior adults in Oklahoma struggle with hunger.
The Senior Home Delivery program is at 32 sites in our service area. Home delivery meal programs partner with Senior Feeding to identify their clients who are high risk for going hungry. The programs then deliver sacks of nonperishable foods to clients once a month. These food sacks are provided to the programs at no cost by the Regional Food Bank and include mostly individual, open-and-eat items. An average of 1,000 seniors are being served monthly through these partnerships.
