Devon Energy Employees Race Against Hunger
Employees Pack Semi Trucks With Pantry Boxes

May 10, 2010

WHAT: As part of the Feeding Hope and Letter Carriers Food Drive, Devon Energy employees will assemble boxes of food for the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma’s 460 partner agencies during the second annual Devon Energy Stuff The Truck event. The Regional Food Bank will set up food assembly lines off-site at the Sheraton, so that downtown Devon employees can participate in this hands-on effort to fight hunger in Oklahoma.  Employees will work in shifts until they fill the Regional Food Bank’s tractor-trailers with boxes of food.  In 2009, Devon Energy and its employees contributed nearly $500,000 to the Feeding Hope and Letter Carriers Food Drive.

WHY: As the state’s largest private hunger-relief charity, the Regional Food Bank distributes enough food to feed more than 77,000 people each week through its network of partner agencies; yet it is still not enough. To meet this demand, the Regional Food Bank is collecting food and money through the Feeding Hope and Letter Carriers Food Drive.  Nearly 80 metro businesses join the letter carriers in 32 central and western Oklahoma counties to combat hunger during May.

WHO: Rodney Bivens, executive director of the Regional Food Bank; Tony Thornton, senior writer from Devon Energy; nearly 500 Devon employees.

WHEN: Wednesday, May 12th from 8 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m.

WHERE: The Downtown Sheraton, located at 1 North Broadway in Oklahoma City (center court area).

VISUALS: The atmosphere of the “Stuff the Truck” event will be festive with each Devon Energy department/floor competing to see who can assemble the most sacks of food and which department has the most “spirit.”  Devon employees will be racing to pack 40 pound pantry boxes as part of their team competition.  A local DJ will be onsite to keep the employees motivated.  Regional Food Bank staff will be on hand to show their appreciation for Devon’s efforts to fight hunger.

The Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma is a private, 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization that acts as a link through which the food industry and community may donate food and other goods. The products are then distributed to nearly 700 schools and charitable feeding programs in 53 central and western Oklahoma counties. In the last fiscal year, the Food Bank distributed 28.5 million pounds of food and product to help the charitable community effectively feed people in need. Since its inception in 1980, the Food Bank has distributed more than 338 million pounds of food to feed Oklahoma’s hungry.
