Devon Energy Donates $588,000 To Feed Hungry Oklahomans
Devon Employees Raise Record Amount

May 29, 2010

OKLAHOMA CITY - On Thursday, Devon Energy presented the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma with a check for $588,000 in support of the 2010 Feeding Hope and Letter Carriers Food Drive.   The record setting donation will provide more than 4 million meals for Oklahomans who are struggling to put food on their table this summer.

“This donation has really exceeded our expectations,” said Rodney Bivens, executive director of the Regional Food Bank. “Devon Energy and its employees have shown tremendous leadership in our community as they continue to provide funding to sustain the feeding programs that help Oklahomans in need. We want to thank Devon for their continued commitment to fighting hunger in our state.

The company and its employees raised the funds during this year’s Feeding Hope and Letter Carriers Food Drive, a month-long food and fund drive that benefits the Regional Food Bank. In addition to the monetary donation, Devon Energy employees volunteered at two of the post office sites during the Letter Carriers Food Drive, and hundreds of Devon employees volunteered at the Food Bank during National Volunteer Week and throughout the year.  On May 12th, employees took part in the second annual “Stuff the Truck” event in downtown Oklahoma City.  In a matter of six hours, they sorted and assembled 142,000 pounds of food boxes- enough to fill six tractor-trailers with food.

“The Regional Food Bank has become a favorite community cause among our employees,” said Devon’s Senior Vice President, Vince White, who also serves on the Regional Food Bank Foundation board. “We share the Regional Food Bank’s passion for eliminating hunger in Oklahoma.”

Volunteers are needed now more than ever as the Food Bank plans to distribute an additional 4.2 million pounds of product over the summer months, on top of their normal distribution.

As the state’s largest hunger-relief organization, the Regional Food Bank provides enough food to feed more than 77,000 Oklahomans each week throughout 53 central and western Oklahoma counties. The products are then distributed to nearly 700 schools and charitable feeding programs in 53 central and western Oklahoma counties. In the last fiscal year, the Food Bank distributed 28.5 million pounds of food and product to help the charitable community effectively feed people in need.
