Tyson Foods Help With Disaster Relief
19,600 Pounds of Food Donated to the Regional Food Bank
May 14, 2010
OKLAHOMA CITY - Yesterday, Tyson Foods delivered half a truckload of protein product earlier than originally planned to assist with those who were affected by the tornadoes in Oklahoma. The donation is also a result of receiving the most virtual can donations on WeCanEndThis.com during a two-week Digital Can Drive in March.
“We were really excited that our neighbors in Oklahoma got together and mobilized their networks to receive this donation,” said Ed Nicholson, director of community and public relations at Tyson Foods, Inc. “We’re glad to be able to deliver it in the wake of the weather disaster of this week. Our hearts and prayers go out to all of those affected, and our respect and gratitude to everyone out there helping with the relief.”
WeCanEndThis.com is a yearlong initiative to spark innovation and a broader engagement in the movement to end hunger in America. The goal is to shift the conversation about hunger in America and create real, tangible solutions. Oklahoma was able to reach the number one spot through local media coverage and with support from their social media following on Twitter and Facebook. “We want to thank Tyson for its commitment to fighting hunger in Oklahoma,” said Rodney Bivens, executive director of the Regional Food Bank. “This donation comes at an important time and is extremely grateful for their support."
