Touch-A-Truck Event To Benefit Food 4 Kids
MOMS Club of Edmonds Helps Feed Hungry Children
May 11, 2010
Nearly 2,000 people are expected to attend the third annual Edmond Touch-A-Truck event on Saturday, May 15. The event, which is organized by the MOMS Club of Edmond, benefits the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma’s Food 4 Kids program.
Edmond Touch-a-Truck is an exciting and educational experience that gives children an opportunity for hands-on exploration of various vehicles. Families will explore more than 30 different types of trucks, including: a fire truck, police car, ambulance, cement truck, school bus and Oklahoma City Thunder Truck.
“Touch-A-Truck is a win-win kind of event,” said Shannon Hogan, event organizer and MOMS Club member. “It benefits kids in need and is a great event for all kids to experience.”
Food 4 Kids provides chronically hungry elementary school children with a backpack full of kid-friendly, nutritious food every Friday to sustain them over weekends and holidays when school meal programs are not available. Currently, 62 children at Orvis Risner, Centennial and Will Rogers elementary schools benefit from the Food 4 Kids program. In central and western Oklahoma, nearly 8,000 elementary school students benefit from the program.
A $200 donation is enough to provide one child with a backpack full of food every weekend and school holiday for an entire school year. Last year, the event raised a record $6,200, which allowed the Regional Food Bank to provide a Food 4 Kids backpack to 31 chronically hungry elementary school students. The Regional Food Bank estimates that an additional 417 students could still benefit from Food 4 Kids in Edmond.
Touch a Truck will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the University of Central Oklahoma parking lot off of 2nd street in Edmond. Admission price is a suggested donation of $2 per person and 100 percent of the proceeds will go to the Food 4 Kids program.
