'Greatest American Dog' Winner Teaches Good Manners at Kids Cafe
March 26, 2010
OKLAHOMA CITY - Local school children will be minding their P’s and Q’s on April 21st when CBS’s Greatest America Dog winner Travis Brorsen and his dog Presley pay a visit to the Urban Mission Kids Cafe, which is an after-school program of the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma.
Following his win on Greatest American Dog, Brorsen developed a book and DVD series called Adventures with Travis and Presley, which helps children to improve their manners. Adventures with Travis and Presley will come to life at Kids Cafe and educate children on manners when the pair visits the site.
“I’m really looking forward to meeting this group of kids,” said Brorsen, who is also member of the Regional Food Bank’s Celebrity Council. “I hope that Presley and I can bring a smile to each of their faces and teach them something all in the same moment. Animals have a way of capturing the attention of children and teaching them lessons about compassion and respect in a meaningful way.”
After the program, the lessons of Adventures with Travis and Presley will be incorporated into all 18 of the Regional Food Bank’s Kids Cafe sites in central and western Oklahoma. Kids Cafe provides a safe-haven for 850 at-risk youth by providing mentoring, tutoring and food. The program has been shown to improve grades and behavior, while teaching the importance of eating healthy meals.
“We want to thank Travis for helping us enrich the lives of children in Oklahoma,” said Rodney Bivens, executive director of the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. “We truly appreciate his support in helping us fight hunger and feed hope.”
As the state’s largest private hunger-relief charity, the Regional Food Bank distributes food to more than 77,000 people each week in 53 counties in central and western Oklahoma.
